Making up rules

I'd like to talk about making up rules. The background story is a ban for meow  ( ).

What I want to say it's not fair that meow was banned for (quoting Wilco) "what can be considered blackmail" . (meows sms to a guy who RDM'ed him: "Right, you got  5 min./ to comp me 400k otherwise you will get reported and banned")

I haven't seen that blackmailing is bannable or in any way forbidden in rules. If it is, we can just ban everyone. Is "hands up or you'll be shot" not blackmailing? It could be "considered", as Wilco said. So?

The msg was just rude and in my opinion it can't be considered as breaking the law (which don't refer to that situation) but only in moral/behaviour way.

Please, stop making up rules.

Hmmm... I think it was Meows tone in his message, which I suspect was frustration being vented, as opposed to a genuine attempt at blackmailing.

A simple "I believe that was RDM, we can talk about this and you can offer compensation for my gear or I can post the video on the forums and we can let the admins decide" I personally wouldn't consider blackmailing, but more an opportunity to resolve it off the forums. - But I'm not sure we could do with some clarification on the matter.

"Put your hands up or you will be shot" is not blackmailing... Thats a roleplay threat! And I understand Meow doesnt want to spend some time posting an report, but its better to get the RDM`ers banned than they just compensate everytime they do this shit...

You can examine it only in bad behavour way. It's not worth of a ban. Warning - yes. And then considering of changing rules, which (as I suppose) are leaky like swiss cheese.

I think we're discussing his message to the player afterwards, which makes the assumption that "RDM'r" will be banned if he doesn't give Meow 400K.

Whilst I agree a ban might have been a little heavy handed, it is not our decision to make, and the rules will always be leaky because we're not solicitors forming a contract between to two corporate businesses, we're normal people playing a game on the computer, common sense and courtesy go a long way.

I am pretty sure the "Blackmail" was more a case of "The last drop" since he had apparently also been blowing up buildings in kavala.

Its talking out of RP in-game which is something i have been clear i dislike but furthermore he is blackmailing him....

Lets have a look at the message

5 mins to comp me 400k otherwise you will be reported and banned.... Sorry thats blackmail

To add someone over the last week has been blowing up houses in Kavala (The bank and surrounding houses) which i was starting to get pissed about as it causes frame drops in kavala and makes the place look like a right mess... fair enough if it happens by accidents but every single night.. PLF Meow was caught redhanded lining up cars next to these houses.

Its a fully justified and fair ban ... No one is making up rules.

I would also like to note Mimsky do you even read the forums ?

I have noticed all your posts are reporting other players or this one today accusing me of making up rules, And... i doubt this will be read as you've already gone offline.

Just to clarify, Blackmailing is punishable by UK law. I believe that it isn't needed for Wilco to apoint you to a server rule which is also illegal by UK law.

Its not that extreme as this is all virtual but still its shitty and should come under the rule of common sense which a vast number of people seem to have a lack of unfortunately.

A simple message like "Could you please compensate my gear which was around 500k, due to the RDM. Rather sort it out here rather than on the forums"

It is defiantly the tone of the text which is out of place and threatening.

I actually asked this question to Wilco as some people were asking me, some people weren't sure that it's acceptable to contact and discuss the actions or if they should go straight to the report forum.

While we should proactively message people and show them that the action carried out was against server rules and you would like compensation for it, doing it in game is not an option. Keep it to Teamspeak, don't give them a timescale and be absolutely sure you're informing them that they've broken a rule and point them to the website. If you're unable to contact them via Teamspeak, then take it to the forums.

If a ban was too harsh, not for me to say. But I'd discourage anyone from sending messages like this, it's not helpful and doesn't serve much use to anyone.

You have anwsered your question yourself. Yes, I read this forum and as far as I know reading is not equal to writing. Or maybe you have other definition of reading...

But, to the discussion. Why you make it personal, please explain? I'm a part of this community. Ane even if I'm not very info writing on forum, as a member of ALUK I can discuss about my doubts in game, right? Or not? So please, don't make it personal. My vote/voice/post is equal to one of this members which writes a lot. I hope so.

Yeah if it was like that - > I would answered. But he blackmailed me and I ignored it. If he told me "Can you go to TS" ... or ... if he wanted some explanation from me -> I have no problems and we can talk like "big boys" , what happened. I didn't want to use Screenshot, but finally he forced me.

I RPing all time  and now we have ban, because was there stupid misunderstanding in shootout.

If you see his YT video,I am trying to shout at him in 0:12, but there was lag or something wrong. He hear it, he responded ("WTF"), he ignored it and he didn't looked around or something. But this is OT.

It was just "in the wrong place at the wrong time" mixed with stupidity.

You made it personal by excusing us of making up rules.... sorry do we need to write common sense into the rules ? How to conduct yourself as a human or an adult ?

I think blackmail is not accepted in any walk of life.

Wilco, this was happening in side chat today, it seems pretty common, players will demand compensation for their death, even if it was their fault and if the accused party doesn't pay they threaten to report them.

I agree that Blackmailing is not acceptable and maybe he did deserve to be banned for blackmailing this person into giving him a compensation. But from my understanding that Meow has also been banned from the forums (dont know why), which is prolonging his chance to put up a unban request.

I would of much preferred if the ban was denied and that Kris or Grannez was told to have a word with him personally about his actions and to help prevent any further blackmailing by himself, as a lot of people are given a second chance to help prevent further actions and reports amongst themselfs.

(Just my personal opinion)
